Capability Plan Approvals
When you ask an agent in Chat to build something, HivemindOS first lists the capabilities the task needs and shows which are ready and which need setup. You can change the plan before the agent installs anything or starts producing output you don’t want.
Review the plan
Each step of the task is a row:
- Available now means the capability is ready. Use Browse to pick another option, point to a GitHub repository, or add instructions such as “look through GitHub for a better capability.”
- Setup required means it isn’t ready yet. The default is Approve setup. Choose Reject to have the agent avoid that install and redesign that part around what you already have.
- Use the remove button to drop a whole step. For example, removing image generation from a launch task removes the images, and the agent adjusts the rest of the plan.
The agent waits until you press Approve capability plan, then continues with your choices and notes.
A chat waiting on this decision shows a highlighted icon in Chat history. It also appears in Alerts, where Review capability plan opens that chat.
Good to know:
- New websites, web apps, dashboards, games, and clones use one App workspace. It creates a separate project for the conversation and doesn’t change the HivemindOS app itself. Requests for something for an app, such as a logo or a checkout component, keep their own capabilities.
- Changes to a specific repository are planned only when you target that repository or attach its checkout. Mentioning a product’s API doesn’t authorize changes to that product’s code.
Set up a capability without leaving Chat
When a capability isn’t ready, its row has Set up now. The setup window opens over the conversation and shows what will be installed or connected, its requirements, source, and safety notes before anything changes.
- Local tools and apps install through the same reviewed setup as My Apps. Current installers cover yt-dlp, Whisper, AppFlowy, n8n, Graphify, TradingAgents, and Ghost.
- Hosted or self-hosted services connect through the normal credential flow. Plausible supports its managed cloud and a self-hosted URL. Cal.com supports hosted or self-hosted API endpoints. Medusa connects with a Store API publishable key. Shopify uses a permanent store domain and an Admin API access token.
- Providers with sign-in use the browser sign-in and return to the same setup window.
After setup, the row changes to Available now and you can finish the plan. The catalog shows each tool’s real license limits: n8n is source-available under its Sustainable Use License, the free cal.diy self-host is for personal, non-production use, and TradingAgents is research-only with no broker or order connection.
Chats without these controls
Codex, Claude Code, terminal agents, and other chats that can’t show HivemindOS controls follow the same rules in plain text. The agent lists ready and setup-required capabilities, names its proposed defaults and main alternatives, and asks one question before continuing.
Autonomous work
Work board tasks and Zero Human Companies choose and set up capabilities automatically, so routine setup doesn’t stall them. To review first:
- On a Work board task, open Assign task and change Capability decisions from Automatic to Ask first.
- For a company, in Approval policies, change installing, enabling, or substituting task capabilities from Automatic to Ask first.
Ask-first work waits in Needs You with the proposed capability list.
What this approval covers
Approving a capability plan covers choosing capabilities and ordinary setup only. It does not approve spending, reveal credentials, authorize a deployment, allow destructive changes, send external messages, or confirm a payment. Those keep their own approvals.
