Inbox Triage
Inbox Triage turns rough notes you drop into the brain inbox into tidy notes and tasks. Your original capture is never moved, edited, or deleted.
What happens to a capture
HivemindOS makes a cleaned copy, decides what kind of item it is, links related notes, and files it:
- tasks and reminders → the Work Board
- ideas →
Ideas/ - projects →
Projects/ - resources →
Memory/Imported Sources/ - general notes →
Memory/Brain Drops/ - anything unclear →
Intake/Review/, instead of guessing
Clear cases are decided on your machine. Only unclear captures are sent to your configured OpenAI model; if that isn’t available or is still unsure, the item goes to review. Retrying never creates duplicate notes or tasks.
New captures are processed right away, and the inbox is checked regularly for notes added in other ways.
The daily report
Once a day, after the report hour (20:00 by default), Inbox Triage writes a read-only report. It runs entirely on your machine with no network calls, and it doesn’t move anything.
Each captured note gets a suggested destination, a confidence level, and the reasons:
- Work Board task — things to do.
- Ideas folder — ideas and strategy sketches.
- Agent Memory — short facts, decisions, or preferences for Shared Brain Memory.
- Syntho candidate — long source material, such as articles or transcripts, that could go into Synthesis. Triage only lists these; you decide.
- Needs review — anything unclear.
Reports are saved in Operations/Brain Services/Inbox Triage/, one per day, and mark what’s new since the last one. When a report finishes, you get an Alert (and a macOS notification) with how many items were reviewed, how many are new, and how many need you.
Find and control it
Open Brain → Brain Services → Overview. The Inbox Triage card shows the watched folders, the last report, and the service state, with buttons to run a report now or turn the service off.
Settings are stored in the vault at Operations/Brain Services/Inbox Triage.md, so they apply on every synced machine. To override on one machine:
HIVEMINDOS_INBOX_TRIAGE=0turns the service off there.HIVEMINDOS_INBOX_TRIAGE_NOTIFY=0keeps the report but turns off its alerts there.
